1. Royal Matchmaker
Objective: To pair matching “royal” items together in teams.
Setup: Prepare a variety of small royal items in pairs (like mini crowns, gems, goblets, shoes, ribbons). Place them all in a “magic chest” or a decorative box.
How to Play: Divide children into two teams. Each player takes turns reaching into the chest to pull out an item. If they find a match to an item already pulled out, they keep the pair. If it’s a new item, they put it back in the magic chest. The team with the most matched pairs wins.
2. Mystic Mirror Dance
Objective: To mirror another’s dance moves.
Setup: Pick an open space and play some royal-themed music (like harp or instrumental fairy tale music – see suggestion below) to set the mood.
How to Play: Pair the children and have each pair stand facing one another. One child in each pair will be the “mirror,” mimicking the other’s dance moves as closely as possible. After a minute, switch roles. This is a great ice-breaker non-competitive game. Celebrate everyone’s effort with applause.
3. The Enchanted Garden
Objective: To collect “enchanted flowers” while avoiding the “sleeping spell.”
Setup: Scatter colorful paper flowers around the room and designate a small area as the “safe castle.” Assign one player as the “enchantress” (who will try to put others under the sleeping spell).
How to Play: The players must collect as many flowers as they can and bring them to the castle. If the enchantress tags them, they must freeze until another player “unfreezes” them by touching their shoulder.
The game ends once all flowers are collected, and whoever brings the most flowers to the castle is crowned “Garden Keeper.”
4. Gemstone Relay
Objective: To pass gemstones without dropping them.
Setup: Give each player a spoon and prepare an equal number of small gemstones for each team (or something light like marbles).
How to Play: In teams, players pass the gemstones down the line using only the spoons. If any of the gems falls, they must pass that gemstone to the start and pass it on again. The team that successfully passes all gemstones to the last person first wins.
5. Fairytale Freeze
Objective: To stay frozen in a magical pose.
Setup: Prepare a playlist of instrumental fairy-tale music (see the one suggested above).
How to Play: Have the children dance freely to the music. When the music stops, they must “freeze” in a royal pose (like holding a pretend crown or curtseying). The last child to freeze each round is out. Continue until only one child is left.
6. Jewel Heist Dash
Objective: To gather as many “royal jewels” as possible before time runs out.
Setup: Scatter plastic jewels, coins, or beads around the party area. Provide each child with a small bag or basket.
How to Play: Set a timer for 2-3 minutes. Players run around collecting as many jewels as possible. At the end of the round, count the jewels. The player or team with the most jewels wins!
For added fun, introduce a “guard” (a parent or helper) who tags players to “freeze” them for a few seconds.
7. The Royal Quest
Objective: To complete a series of “royal tasks” to earn their royal title.
Setup: Set up five or six mini-stations with different tasks, such as balancing a book on their head or walking on “stepping stones” (paper circles) without falling. (See the whole suggested list below.)
How to Play: Players complete each task in order and receive a “royal badge” at the end. This is a non-competitive game, so each child feels celebrated.
Examples of Royal Tasks:
Balancing the Royal Book – Players balance a book on their heads and walk a short distance without dropping it.
Decorate the Crown – Provide plain paper crowns and craft supplies. Players decorate their own crown in 2 minutes.
Slipper Search – Hide a single fancy shoe (like a princess slipper) in a designated area. Players must search and find it.
Knighting Ceremony – Players kneel on a cushion while an adult taps their shoulders with a play sword.
Jewel Sorting Challenge – Give players a bowl of mixed beads or plastic jewels. They must sort them by color into separate containers.
Magic Wand Creation – Provide craft supplies to decorate wooden sticks or straws into wands.
Ring the Royal Bell – Players must toss a ring or hoop onto a small bell or rod.
Dragon Crossing – Create a small obstacle course that players must navigate while holding a treasure box.
Royal Dance Spin – Players perform a graceful spin or dance for the court.
Mystery Potion Tasting – Prepare small cups of juice with different flavors. Players must guess the “magical ingredients” (e.g., orange juice, lemonade).
8. Royal Scroll Mystery
Objective: To decode a secret “princess” message that leads to a hidden “royal treasure”.
Setup: Prepare a “scroll” with a short message written in a code and a sheet with the decoding key for each team. (Download below the decoding key for the whole alphabet. Find also some ready-to-use messages.)
Hide around the party area small prizes or decorative “royal treasures” like gems, coins, or mini tiaras, that your guests can find after decoding their message.
How to Play: Divide children into teams, and give each team a scroll and a copy of the key to decode it. The message will lead to a hidden “royal treasure.” The first team to decode the message and find the treasure wins.
Royal Scroll Mystery Messages:
“Look under the royal throne for your prize!”
(Under a chair or couch)
“Search the enchanted forest for the treasure.”
(In a plant-decorated corner)
“Find the magic mirror to uncover the clue.”
(Near a mirror)
“The keeper of keys hides your reward!”
(Near keys or a key box)
“Seek the glowing lantern for the secret.”
(Near a light or lantern)
“The royal jewels guard your treasure.”
(In a jewelry box)
“Check the princess’s favorite storybook!”
(Inside or near a book)
“Find the royal slipper to reveal the clue.”
(Near a shoe)
“Search near the royal feast for the prize.”
(On or near the table)
“The dragon’s lair hides your treasure!”
(In a tent or box decorated as a lair)
9. Magic Wishing Fountain
Objective: To toss “wishing stones” into the fountain to make wishes.
Setup: Set up a “fountain” using a large bowl or decorative box and place it at a short distance from the players. Give each child a few coins or stones.
How to Play: Each child takes turns tossing their stones into the fountain while making a silent wish. If their stone lands in the fountain, they get a small prize. This game can be repeated until each child has had several turns.
10. Potion Making Challenge
Objective: To create the “sparkliest” potion using various glitter and craft supplies.
Setup: Provide small jars, water, glitter, food coloring, and a variety of “secret ingredients” like flower petals, shiny beads, and confetti.
How to Play: Each child creates their own potion by mixing different ingredients. Once finished, have them show their potion to the group, and each child receives a ribbon for their magical creativity.
