How To Make Custom Candy Bar Wrappers Fast
by Ann Mifsud
The difference between an ordinary party and a memorable one lies in the detail. When a party theme is chosen, usually the focus is on the major party decor items such as the backdrop, the balloons, the centerpiece, and all the rest. Often, little attention is paid to other party articles such as candy bars, chip bags, and popcorn boxes.
Giving out candy bars with personalized wrappers at your next party will be a hit with your guests.
To make custom candy bar wrappers, you need our free editable template, printer paper (US Letter or A4 size), a pair of scissors, and roller tape. Design your DIY candy bar wrapper on a word processor even if you are not a graphic designer.

Here is how to make awesome homemade chocolate wrappers.
Let us start with the idea for your themed candy bar wrapper
1. How To Work Out The Best Idea For A Personalized Candy Bar Wrapper
Having already decided on a specific theme for your kid’s party makes it easier to come up with an idea for a custom candy bar wrapper. Use the same color scheme, style, and fonts as your chosen theme. For our son’s 12th birthday, for example, we came up with these Neon Glow Party candy bar wrappers.
You can go to section two below to start designing your chocolate wrapper if you have decided on the party theme.
On the other hand, if you do not have a particular party theme in mind, then we have a simple process that will help you come up with the best idea for personalized party printables and decorations, in this case, a candy bar wrapper.
This process is explained extensively in: How To Make An Eye-Catching Party Banner. We go into detailed illustrations and examples of how this process works.
How To Make An Eye-Catching Party Banner
A party banner is the most indispensable item of all party decorations because it denotes what the celebration is all about. The best party banners are those made exclusively…
Next comes the design of your personalized candy wrapper.
2. How To Design A Custom Chocolate Wrapper Fast
The quickest and easiest way to design a custom-made candy bar wrapper is by using a word processor.
Step 1
Download our free printable candy bar wrapper template. It is a transparent (png) file.
Step 2
Open a new blank document in Word, Pages, or Google Docs and choose landscape from page setup.
Step 3
Drag our transparent chocolate bar wrapper template on the blank page.
Step 4
Resize the template by extending it to the limits of the whole page. In doing so on an A4/US Letter page you will end up with the right measurements for a custom candy bar wrapper that is the right size to cover a standard Hershey’s 1.55oz (44g) chocolate bar all around.
You can however, customize any candy bar wrapper.
Here is how we got to the dimensions of the wrapper for a Hershey’s bar that is 5.3”(13.5cm) long, 2.25”(5.7cm) wide, and 0.25”(0.6cm) thick.
The length of the wrapper is straightforward – 5.3”(13.5cm), which is the same length as the chocolate bar.
To determine the width that goes all around the candy bar, double its width and its thickness, add half an inch (1cm) where the ends overlap, and sum them up together.
That is: 2.25”(5.7cm) times two and you get 4.5”(11.4cm); 0.25”(0.6cm) times two, and you get 0.5”(1.2cm); and the extra half inch. Total: 5.5”(14cm).
Step 5
Change the page background to the color you have in mind for your custom candy bar wrapper.
- If you are using Microsoft Word, go to Design > Page Color > Theme Colors or Standard Colors.
- If you are working on Pages (Mac), click on Document (top right-hand corner) > Section > Background.
- If you are editing on Google Docs, select File > Page Setup > Page Color.
Step 6
Add your text and image/s to the front of the wrapper. For ease of use, we have outlined where you can add a text box and the front image. When you finish adding text and images, you can remove our template.
Next, add more text on both back flaps, as shown in our template. We have provided some fun nutrition facts, a barcode and some funky stars in the same download if you wish to use them.
Step 7
Insert a transparent square with a fine border so that when you remove the template we provided you will have a guide from where you need to cut out the wrapper.
Step 8
Remove our transparent (png) wrapper template and spend time looking at your finished product tweaking any element if necessary.
Step 9
Print your personalized candy wrapper, preferably on thin, glossy (A4/US Letter) paper.
Adjust your printer settings to glossy paper and borderless printing.
Print as many print-outs as you need.
3. How To Put Together A DIY Candy Bar Wrapper
Finally, you are ready to assemble your custom wrapper.
What you need
- Custom candy bar wrappers
- Scissors
- Roller tape or glue stick
Step 1
Cut out your custom wrapper.
Step 2
