Before designing your homemade popcorn box, picture how you would like the end result to be. For example, if you need customized popcorn boxes to complement a theme you have for your child’s party, go for the same colors, text fonts, and images.

If on the other hand, you want to come up with something creative for an occasion where you don’t have a theme already, follow this simple method.

Think of the person or the celebration you want to make the popcorn boxes for, and write down the first things that come to your mind about that person or observance. Come up with their favorite color, their likes, the reason for the celebration, and so on. Then convert these words or phrases into images. In this manner you will get inspiration on how you will be designing your popcorn box.

We use this method to come up with eye-catching party banners and custom chip bags made at home. Check How To Make An Eye-Catching Party Banner for an in-depth explanation and illustrations about this method.

When you are happy with the idea, get on your computer or laptop to start your popcorn box design.

Step 5

Change the page background to the color you have in mind for your popcorn box. You can also insert a picture or a pattern, but be careful of too much clutter when you insert images or other designs in the background.

  • If you are using Microsoft Word, go to Design > Page Color > Theme Colors or Standard Colors.
  • If you are working on Pages (Mac), click on Document (top right-hand corner) > Section > Background.
  • If you are editing on Google Docs, select File > Page Setup > Page Color.
