by Ann Mifsud

If you are planning a camouflage-themed party for your kid, one thing you surely want to get right is, food. And you don’t want just any food, you want party food that rocks! At first it may seem daunting to try and think of food in the camo theme.

When we were planning our son’s camouflage birthday party, we were amazed by how many dishes, sweets and treats we came up with to complement the theme. With a little bit of imagination, we worked around food in the camo colors, namely tan, black, a selection of greens and browns.

We have divided our list of camo party food into 3 categories for your ease of reference. (Go straight to any category by clicking on it.)

Towards the end you can also find an excellent idea how to serve drinks in camo style.

Depending on the slant you wish to give your kid’s camo party and the age of your young guests, you may want to emphasize one category of food over another.

We’re confident you will get inspired by the following camo party food ideas and enjoy trying them out.

Camo Snacks and Candy

All our chosen camouflage-themed snacks and candy are preparation free. They can all be store-bought and the only time needed is to turn the chosen food item into one that complements the camo theme. We hope you’ll fancy experimenting with some of them at your kid’s party.

1. Wild Avocado Breakfast (with Nachos)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Jar of avocado dip (or more depending on your number of guests)

  • Large packet of nachos

How to serve

  • To complement the camo theme, we would recommend transferring the avocado dip out of its jar and into a round aluminum foil tart pan.

  • Round it off by filling a rectangular aluminum foil tray with nachos and let the guests help themselves.

2. Rough Cut Lumber (Pretzel Sticks)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Large packet of pretzel sticks

How to serve

  • Get a long glass and glue a camo-themed strip round it.

  • You can download and print our strip below for free.
  • Simply display the pretzel sticks in it.

  • You may wish to have more than one glass at different ends of your food table.

Important Tip: If having glass is of concern to you, maybe because of very young guests, opt for aluminum foil trays, or possibly clear plastic cups.

3. Crazy Cheese Puffs

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Large bag of cheese puffs

How to serve

  • Aluminum foil dishes work wonders for the camo theme.

  • We would recommend emptying a packet into one or two rectangular dishes to keep in theme.

Note: We generally think it’s ok that kids eat junk at a birthday party, because they eat healthy most other days anyway. However, if you’re concerned and would rather offer your guests something healthier but just as fun, these organic cheddar cheese protein puffs are the perfect choice. They are pricey though.

4. Voyager’s Crunch (Potato Crisps)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Large bag of potato chips (buy organic and GMO free if you’re health conscious)

How to serve

  • Simply turn the bag contents into a sizeable aluminum foil container or smaller individual ones, if you prefer.

5. Mountain Man Rocks

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Store-bought packet/s of popcorn or microwave popcorn

How to serve

  • Serve in individual popcorn boxes featuring the camo design, such as the ones here.

  • If you want smaller-sized camo popcorn boxes (which we typically prefer, since there would be so many other food items at a kid’s party), then grab our template. (Find all free camo resources in the same download.)

6. Untamed Mallows (Marshmallows)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Large bag of white marshmallows

How to serve

  • Using a large candy jar (or a couple smaller ones), decorate the lid with a piece of sack cloth, making sure you secure it by tying a string round the rim.

  • Stick an army star on top of the lid to complement the camo look.

  • Find the image in the free camo resource pack.

7. Off Road Rocks

  • Tie a string round the rim of the jar to keep the sack cloth in place.

9. Candy Cure

  • Make sure the sack cloth is neatly fitted in and held in place with a string tied around the neck of your candy jar.

10. Explorer’s Treat (Oreos)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Several packets of Oreos

How to serve

  • If you want your Oreos to be up for the grabs throughout the party, display them in a round aluminum foil pan.

  • Alternatively, if you prefer to have them in individual portions, use smaller ones, typically used for tarts.

11. Climber’s Ropes (Black Licorice)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Packet of black licorice wheels

How to serve

  • We preferred serving these as ropes.

  • To do this, we got a packet of black licorice wheels and undo them into laces.

  • We then twisted them into ropes.

  • The quicker and easier version however, would be to serve them as wheels.

  • An aluminum foil pan or several tart-sized ones will do the job nicely.

Camo Party Main Dishes

12. Big Bold Burgers

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Burger buns

  • Burger meat

  • Cheese slices

  • Sliced onion

  • Tomato

  • Burger sauce or ketchup

  • Lettuce (optional)

  • Onion rings (optional)

  • Camo flags on kebab skewers (free template with camo resource pack)

How to prepare burgers

  • Start by stir frying the onion in a pan on the hob. We like to spice it up with some cumin, but it’s entirely optional.
  • Next, cook the burgers in a pan or in the oven, as per instructions.
  • Pan fry or oven cook the onion rings. These are usually semi-cooked, so they should be nicely done in a few minutes.
  • Then, simply layer the burger, stir-fried onion, cheese slice, tomato and lettuce, burger sauce or ketchup.
  • Close the bun and place a couple of onion rings on top, making sure to keep them in place using camo flags on kebab skewers.

How to serve

  • Serve on individual camo-themed plates.

13. Funky Meatballs

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Store-bought meatballs

  • Tomato sauce

  • Lettuce/broccoli florets/cabbage (to garnish)

How to prepare meatballs

  • Cook the meatballs as per instructions.
  • Heat the tomato sauce, to be used on top of the meatballs.

How to serve

  • Nicely display the cooked meatballs, topped with the tomato sauce.

14. Insane Sausages

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Hot dog sausages

  • Ketchup

  • Kebab skewers

  • Lettuce/broccoli florets/cabbage (to garnish)

How to prepare sausages

  • Cook the hot dog sausages in oven or in a pan on the hob, as per instructions.
  • If the sausages are long, cut them in half. Then insert a skewer into each sausage and smear them with ketchup.

How to serve

  • In a rectangular aluminum foil dish, lay a bed of lettuce leaves, shredded cabbage and broccoli florets.

  • Display the sausages on skewers on top of the vegetable bed.

15. Out In The Wild (Pork Ribs)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • A few racks of pork ribs

  • Store-bought BBQ rib sauce (or homemade if you prefer)

  • Herb mixture (paprika, salt, pepper, oregano, thyme, cayenne)

  • Can of beer

  • Lettuce/broccoli florets/cabbage (to garnish)

How to cook pork ribs

  • Rub the ribs with the herb mixture and leave overnight in the fridge (or at least a few hours).
  • Lay the ribs in a baking dish and pour the beer in the dish.
  • Set oven at 325F (160C) and bake, covered, for about 60 minutes.
  • Take out of the oven, spread the BBQ rib sauce on top and bake, uncovered, for another 30 minutes or so, until ribs are tender and come off the bone with ease.
  • Check regularly to make sure the beer does not dry out. If so, add some water.

How to serve

  • Using a rectangular aluminum foil dish, display the ribs on a bed of raw vegetables of choice.

  • Lettuce leaves, broccoli florets and shredded cabbage complement the ribs nicely.

  • If you prefer to serve the ribs individually, do so on camo-themed plates.

16. Fearless Fries

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Large bag of oven fries

How to prepare oven fries

  • Though following the instructions on the oven fries’ bag is a no-brainer, keep in mind that fries are at their best as soon as they are cooked. For this reason, try not to leave too much time between cooking and serving.

How to serve

  • We found that serving the fries in small camo-containers complemented the camo theme at our son’s birthday party (find a free box template in the camo resource pack).
  • If you are serving other main dishes in individual camo-themed plates, you could opt to serve the fries at the side, in the same plate.
  • Alternatively, present the fries in a large aluminum tray and let the guests help themselves.

17. Field Rations (Spinach Tortilla Wraps)

camo-party-food

What you need

  • Packet of spinach tortilla wraps
  • Medium-sized onion (diced)
  • 14oz (400g) minced beef
  • 17oz (500ml) of beef stock
  • Cabbage
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cornflour
  • Olive oil (to cook with)

How to prepare spinach tortilla wraps

  • Fry the diced onion in a spoonful of olive oil in a large pan on the hob. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add 14oz (400g) minced beef meat and cook until brown.
  • Add about 17oz (500ml) of beef stock and simmer for an hour.
  • Meanwhile, cut the cabbage in thin slices, or shred if you prefer. Set aside ¼ of the shredded cabbage aside, to use later for serving. Stir fry the rest of it, about ¾, in batches, for 3 minutes in another pan. Add salt and pepper.
  • Once the meat has been cooked through, add the cabbage leaves to the meat.
  • Finally, add a spoonful of cornflour, which would have been previously added to water and mix throughly. This will bring the mixture together and will make sure your wraps won’t fall apart when halved.
  • Transfer a few spoonfuls of the mixture onto the spinach tortilla wraps and close tightly.
  • Let them cool slightly before cutting in half, or serve whole if you prefer, depending on how many food items you have.

How to serve

  • In a rectangular aluminum foil dish, prepare a bed of sliced cabbage (using the ¼ cabbage you would have previously set aside).

  • Then, gently place the halved spinach tortilla wraps for your guests to enjoy.

18. Woodland Tagliatelle

camo-party-food

  • Bag of mixed green and yellow tagliatelle (or 2 separate packets)

  • Diced onion

  • 9oz (250ml) beef stock

  • Can of tomato sauce

How to prepare yellow and green tagliatelle

  • To make the bolognese, fry the diced onion in a spoonful of olive oil in a large pan on the hob. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add 14oz (400g) minced beef meat and cook until brown.
  • Add about 9oz (250ml) of beef stock, the can of tomato sauce and simmer for an hour.
  • Boil the tagliatelle as per instructions on bag.

How to serve

  • In a rectangular aluminum foil dish, place the yellow and green tagliatelle, then pour the bolognese sauce on top, making sure you don’t totally cover the tagliatelle, to bring out the 3 camo colors.

  • Serve the pasta to your guests on individual plates or let them help themselves.

  • Mix the stir-fried vegetables to the noodles and you are done.

How to serve

  • Serve the noodles in individual cups, to which you would have ideally stuck a camo army star cut-out (you can find it in the free camo resource pack as well).
  • Top with a camo flag on a kebab skewer to complete the camo-themed noodles.
