8 Essential Camouflage Party Decoration Ideas

by Ann Mifsud

Holding a camouflage party for your young loved one will certainly result in a most memorable celebration for the boy or girl and their closest friends. This is especially true if your child is a bit older and is done with the little kids’ party themes.

Planning for this kind of party can be quite daunting, particularly if it is your first time thinking about camouflage party decoration ideas.

In this article we will be sharing with you how to decorate your venue for a camo party in 8 easy but essential steps. We are showing you how we have transformed our own yard for our eldest 13th birthday.

You can also successfully use the same decoration ideas for a girl’s camouflage party with a few tweaks here and there.

You need to picture camouflage party decor in these 8 key elements:

1. The Backdrop

You have at least two good options here.

Plain Color Fabric

You can go for a plain black fabric as a background for all your decoration items. The main advantage with going plain, is that anything else you put over and above, will definitely stand out.

We chose black as the basic color for our party decor. A black cloth is also versatile since you can use it over and over again for other party themes. We have previously used the same black stuff for a neon-themed event and a pirate party.

If black is not your thing, choose instead any color from the traditional woodland camo’s: greens, browns and khaki. Light blue and soft pink can also be interesting for a boy’s or a girl’s party respectively.

Camouflage Netting

On the other hand, you can opt for some camouflage netting. This will certainly add an even more impressive look to the camouflage party venue decoration. The only downside is that it might be a bit difficult for other decoration items to stand out if they’re not plain.

You can also set up the plain fabric in the background with the camouflage netting running over it at the side or the centre. You will probably get the best of both worlds in that way.

2. The Main Pennant Banner

A main pennant banner is a must for every party theme in our opinion. It states what the event is all about. At the very least, you have two alternatives here as well.

Ready Made

If you’re particularly pressed for time, just buy this camo  pennant banner. If you don’t mind some military undertones you can select this one. Ribbons are inclusive in both products.

If you’re looking for a plain banner without any wording you can choose from pink, blue or green.

3. Camouflage Balloons

Just like with any other party theme, you can’t really do without balloons at a camouflage party.

For our son’s party we have mixed different greens, black and camo, 12” latex balloons in bunches of 8. If you are planning a pink camo party, you can always replace one of the above colors, say black, with pink.

Be careful not to set up your balloons too early, especially in hot weather. Latex balloons deflate or even pop in warm conditions. Go to our full guide: How to keep balloons from deflating and popping.

There is also this nice foil camouflage star 18” balloon available. Foil (mylar) balloons are less prone to deflate, unlike the rubber ones, even in warm weather.

Pro tip: Replace one of the traditional camouflage colors with pink for a girl camo party.

Caution: Hang balloons as close to party time as possible, especially if it is going to be held outside in summery conditions. Air-filled latex balloons tend to start deflating as soon as they are hung, whilst helium-filled balloons tend to loose their lift.

4. Swirls And Fans

Camo swirls and fans are a good option to include as part of your camouflage party decorations, as they give an overall fuller look.

If you already have some green, black, brown, pink or blue swirls, depending on your choice of colors, you can always transform them in camo-themed decorations by attaching camo paper designes and accessories to their ends. Find the latter in the same free banner download mentioned above. (Coming soon)

5. The Food Table Cover

Like with the backdrop for a camouflage party, you can decide upon using either a plain-colored table cover, or a camouflage tablecloth.

The major advantage of using a plain-colored table cover is that when you fill the food table with all kinds of items, they wouldn’t look all cluttered up. Besides, you can always reuse a plain-colored table cover for other party themes, as mentioned above.

We recommend you go for black or dark green.

Camouflage tablecloths, on the other hand, are usually made of plastic. This makes them super practical, especially when used for dining tables with young guests.

6. Triangle Flag Banner

7. Camo Accessories

By including camouflage related accessories, you will make your camouflage party decorations more complete. These items will fill the gaps that can be seen especially through the camera lens. You will certainly be creating more photo-worthy opportunities.

You might already own some of these items, like a rope, a pair of binoculars or an army backpack. You can then buy camo plastic helmets and an army style canteen.

Wrap small cardboard boxes in brown paper or camouflage tissue paper and place them on the food table. These can help prop your food items so you create different heights and make your displays more eye-catching.

You can also get your hands on a used wooden pallet or two. Position them around around the food table or anywhere you see fit. You can find these pallets for free at local hardware stores, construction sites or furniture stores.

8. Camouflage Tableware

Camo tableware is the last but a must, essential piece for your camouflage party decorations.

You can purchase a complete camo party pack, which includes:

  • 9” Dinner paper plates
  • 7” Dessert paper plates
  • 12oz Cups
  • 3 ply Napkins (x 30)

You can go for this smaller pack instead, but which also includes a tablecloth, a banner, straws, forks, spoons and plastic knives.
